Daifukumochi

Today is a bank holiday, but it's a pity it's raining...

The other day, I made a Japanese confection; Daifukumoch. Which is made of a glutinous rice cake stuffed with sweetened azuki beans paste. Dai means 'great/big' and fuku means 'luck'.

This sweets were from Edo period (1603-1868). Originally fuku meant 'belly' because it makes you feel full stomach after eating. But the word was replaced by the same pronunciation as the word for luck, just only because it's a good meaning. So, it's fortunate food which brings you good luck:) Bon appetit!
