Kumade
I've already mentioned about Kumade in my article 'Ryogoku', but again, Kumade is a ornamental bamboo rake as a good luck symbol, because of images of 'raking up' luck. Kumade is always decorated with all the lucky charms, such as old coins, pine, bamboo, plum, crane, tortoise, okame (fat-face woman's mask), daruma (wishing doll), red sea bream, golden gavel, Ebisu-daikoku (one of the seven gods) etc...
My friend makes lovely paper crafts and always send it to me for the season's greeting. Belatedly, I'll introduce you her talented work. See, this detailed-oriented work! It was a 'Kumade'. Her work is always displayed on a shelf or wall in our house. I look forward to see it every year.
