Nōkanshi
A nōkanshi (or yukanshi) is a Japanese ritual mortician. It's a low-visibility but very important role. Once this job received attention in media by the Japanese film 'Departures'. In preparation for the funeral, a professional nōkanshi works cleaning the body, dressing the dead in white, and sometimes applying make-up for encoffining. My family said my grandmother got a pink lipstick on and looked lovely and peaceful. And then she was cremated.
In Buddhism, the urn containing the ashes is interred in a ceremony on the 49th day following the death. So she will be interred in the same grave as her husband next month.
