Misdelivery

In the UK, sometimes we get misdeliveries. It can be for a previous property owner, or for an unknown person, or our neighbours. Because in the UK, letters and packages are delivered only by address. In a sense, a letter can arrive without name, if there is an address on it. It was quite a surprise for me at first, because they are delivered by address and surname in my country. We have our surname and house number out at the front of our house. What a safe country‼ If the surname is different, the postman tends to ask.

The other day, while we were out, one of our next door neighbours received a parcel for us. They are a young family and relatively new residents. Probably we know each other but don't know each others' names. We received the parcel and noticed it was not for us. The address was correct, but an unknown name was there. It's very troublesome, isn't it?

Eventually, we worked out that it was for our other next door neighbours. We have the same house number, but they also have a letter 'A' after the number, because our houses were used to be one house. If there was their name on the parcel, we would recognise it, but the name was their new lodger's which we didn't know.

Again, I got a misdelivery today. I hope everybody writes the correct address.
