What's Your Favourite Children's Books?

I found an article about 'Top 10 favourite children's books' on BBC website. According to the article, top 10 favourite children's books are;
  • 1. Winnie-the-Pooh - AA Milne (1926)
  • 2. Alice's Adventures In Wonderland - Lewis Carroll (1865)
  • 3. The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle (1969)
  • 4. The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien (1937)
  • 5. The Gruffalo - Julia Donaldson (1999)
  • 6. Charlie And The Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl (1964)
  • 7. Black Beauty - Anna Sewell (1877)
  • 8. Treasure Island - Robert Louis Stevenson (1883)
  • 9. The BFG - Roald Dahl (1982)
  • 10. The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe - CS Lewis (1950)
Most of these are famous even in my country, and I've read some of these in Japanese or in English. As the same as children's TV programme, each country has different children's books. Some books are based on folk tales, some books are fantasy story and some books have come from another country and are translated into your language.
My top three favourite Japanese children's picture-books were;
  • Kame-no-nokonoko - Kazuo Maekawa; It’s a story about turtle’s family. To be honest, I don't remember this story itself, but I really liked this book, especially the sence of cooking egg sunny-side up on a big stone.
  • Ofuro - Morihisa Yamamoto; A interesting thing is that this picture of bath tub is Japanese old-time wooden bath. My grandparents had this kind of bath tub before. The story is about a boy and father who are going to take a bath. This book is interesting, because every page is splitting into two, above and bottom, upper and lower body. If you turn an above page, they peel off their jumper first, and then if you turn a bottom page, they peel off their trousers. Eventually, the boy will get naked. I think his father has wrapped a towel around his lower half though...;) And after having a bath, they wear underware and pyjama.
  • Nezumi-kun no Chokki - Yoshio Nakae; It's a story about Nezumi-kun (a little mouse) who got a nice little red vest knitted by his mother. A duck, monky, a fur seal, a lion, a horse, and finally a big elephant comes by and asks to let him try it on. Eventually, Nezumi-kun's vest is stretched. He walks away wearily dragging the stretched vest. But at the end of the scene, he hangs it on elephant's trunks and plays on the swing.
