Ancestors

Have you ever thought where you come from? Who are your ancestors? I've tried to investigate my ancestry. I can trace it until my great-grandparents without getting family registers.

Also we have family crests. The origin of family crests is believed to date from about 1,000 years ago, but ordinary people have been able use them freely since the Meiji Era (1868-1912). There are said to be more than 10,000 different family crests in Japan.

As a result, if you want to investigate your ancestry, you need to do it patiently. I think I won't fully trace it, but I have a strange feeling when I think of my ancestors. What kind of destinies they had, and what kind of destinies will I bring to my descendants? It may depend on our decisions.

Fruit Tart

I like sweets. I bought some fruit talts at the pastry shop today. It's a lovely pastry shop "atelier oeuf" in residential district. I don't eat cake so often, but I am a fan of this shop's cakes. It opened a several years ago, which has French interior and it's really nice. Why don't you pop in? There is a space for drinking coffee as well.

Dieting

In recent years, some animals in the zoo have had a propensity for obesity, just like people. I heard that pandas in the Ueno Zoo are getting fat... Having a slim body and young-looking skin are eternal theme for women the world over:) Amazingly, some growing children around 10 year-old go on a diet as well, maybe because of media pressure, but I think it's very risky behaviour.

When I was in my 20's, I took the effort to lose weight. The most effective means of dieting was eating regular meals, stop snacking between meals (not 100%) and doing exercises by myself at home. The point is to find your rhythm of exercise. Then you don't think it's a hard way, but rather you can enjoy it; you can find the subtle difference between before and after, and you can feel happy. I think finding the rhythm brings you to a successful conclusion.

Believe it or not, I had done my way of exercise every night for 3 years, until I had an injury. After that, I lost my rhythm and I haven't found it again yet. Now I want to lose some more weight for the wedding and keep it. Though I am susceptible to sweet temptation...

Arduousness

When you're in trouble or confused, you have a narrow view of things. You are blind to the beautiful world and the rest of the world. If you turn your attention to others, you would feel much better. God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. It's a passage from the Bible, Corinthians 10:13. I am not a Christian, but I think it's true.

Small Delight

I won the lottery! When I bought something at the shopping mall in Sendai during the end of year, I got postcards from shops, with which you can participate in lotteries for various gifts from travel tickets to gift vouchers. That event is held by the local chamber of commerce every year, but I'd never won. My postcard was luckily chosen by lottery and I received famous confectionery in Sendai. That made me smile and feel like something good is going to happen:)

Pizza

I had a lunch with my friend the other day. It was a popular Kamayaki pizza (useing stone oven to be baked) restaurant "Del-Sol" in Tomiya. The staff were very friendly and it has a homey atmosphere. The restaurant can accommodate only about 20-30 people, so I urge booking to avoid disappointment. It was busy. I ordered "Margherita". The pizza dough had a surprisingly good taste!

Room in Your Heart

I went to the building of Miyagi prefectural government the other day. It's located next to Kotodai Park. In the park, there is the statue of Kajinosuke Tanikaze (1750-1795) who was a sumo wrestler. He was from Miyagi and got the title of Yokozuna (supreme champion). I used to pass by this park for work everyday. But if you have room in your heart, you can see and feel a little bit different from usual.

Setsubun

3 February is Setsubun, the day before the beginning of spring in Japan according to the lunisolar calendar. It is considered to be the time when the spirit world becomes close to the physical world. So people open the doors of their houses, and throw beans and shout "Oni-wa-soto, Fuku-wa-uchi (Devils out! Fortune in!)" to drive away any bad spirits out of their houses that might get into your house. When I was young, I scattered beans and ate, but now I prefer to eat beans:) Why don't you drive away your own bad luck?
